For many Apple products there’s no advantage since if they don’t fit within the tax free concession you end up paying the GST when you declare them anyway and as noted in the above example the difference in that case between RRP and ‘Duty Free’ price is really just the 15% GST. Obviously if they are within concession there may be the tax saving.

May 14, 2018 at 12:49 am NZST #4546drajkParticipantThere is of course quite a difference of spend within the HVC definition. Koru is obviously significantly cheaper than the spend one must achieve to be G or E – unless one was lucky enough to receive one of the recent bonus SP promotions with the ability to maximise it during the period – I personally was somewhat disappointed not to receive one of these promotions as it seems unfair that these were not universal given how hard it is to earn many SP domestically and TT these days. The regional SP earn in NZ is pathetic in many cases.
The other thing which I think is important is that maximum bandwidth is shared across all connected customers on an aircraft so having more connected at a cheaper fee probably doesn’t necessarily increase cost above s maximum bandwidth level. If NZ factors the maximum cost divided by all seats it may not be markedly high.
May 13, 2018 at 11:07 pm NZST #4544drajkParticipantI was intending to use the service last Friday when I received a preflight notification. I decided against it when I saw the $40 price. I was very surprised as I participated in some customer research for NZ last year and I don’t recollect suggested prices being anywhere near that level. The pages available free loaded quickly but can’t comment on others as decided I wouldn’t pay the amount asked. I am staggered that as a HVC or premium passenger one doesn’t receive this as a membership benefit or at least one should be entitled to a significant discount.
April 9, 2018 at 10:25 am NZST #4357drajkParticipantI have a separate (using a different email address) App Store account for the Australian App Store. I think I setup while there or may have used VPN. I then change between stores when I need Australian apps unavailable in NZ app store.
I find knowing what price I’ll be charged for the fare ahead of time reassuring and on my first ingogo fare the traffic was hideous and I know from previous experience that a metered fare would have been a lot higher.
I have never been overcharged by ingogo – do note however that if using a discount code like described above they authorise the full fare but I’ve found the resulting charge to be correct.
March 28, 2018 at 11:06 am NZDT #4275drajkParticipantI was in Melbourne several weeks ago. I go there regularly and frequently taxi drivers have processed my payment via ingogo and I have noticed a discount signup code on receipt.
When I recently arrived I downloaded the app and used a promo code via google search and created an account which gave me 2x$10 credits.
I found they do fixed price fares and used ingogo both to and from the city as well as within the city. My prediscount fares from/To airport to/from city were $52.30 and $67.40 for wagons both ways (lots of luggage) which I thought were really good especially as the city destination from the airport was difficult to access and traffic heavy.
The app has driver messaging and notifications and I found it excellent. It also tells you cab number to avoid getting in the wrong cab – there is a penalty if you have a confirmed booking and don’t use it and equally a driver penalty if they confirm your booking and don’t arrive.
The departure area from International is outside Park Royal (walk straight as you exit terminal) – same place as Uber. The wait for a wagon to city was about 5 minutes.
Anyway in my app is a referral link which may get you $20 credit – I don’t know how long this offer lasts but have posted below. The app is in the Australian App Store – you need an au store account – not sure about android but also a web page – url below.
I also entered QFF number and got 250 qantas points for both airport trips – the details on qantas point offer suggested would be back to lesser points but was given 250 points each airport trip.

June 23, 2017 at 1:17 pm NZST #2770drajkParticipantI don’t use mine until through the secure area but it’s interesting that many of the private transfer companies don’t seem to know about the rule. Many text or call shortly after the plane lands to let you know they are waiting and it does create a little bit of anxiety that not answering will make them think one is not coming.
June 19, 2017 at 12:16 am NZST #2717drajkParticipantI’ve found that in general NZ Duty Free prices aren’t great value compared to some other sources. For example I have seen fragrance specials at Chemist Warehouse in Australia which are less than half of equivalent NZ Duty Free prices. I’ve also on occasion seen some Alcohol prices at Countdown lower than NZ Duty Free prices.
June 13, 2017 at 11:44 pm NZST #2665drajkParticipantI was quite unimpressed with FISH when I went there last year – food was nothing special and service poor – certainly not the standard one anticipated from its earlier days as ‘White’.
June 5, 2017 at 3:08 pm NZST #2603drajkParticipantPretty common – possibly sometimes it’s an on duty staff member concerned they may get in trouble for giving two ‘discounts’.
I suppose in some respects it is an additional discount – for example if the maximum Entertainment Book discount is say 25% then giving Airpoints on the balance results in a net >25% ‘discount’ on the overall price.
I do believe that restaurants in that group will let you earn Airpoints when paying with a gift card you have got by redeeming Airpoints at the Airpoints Store – I thought this was good (different to situation where you cannot get Airpoints for a flight paid for by Airpoints).
June 1, 2017 at 7:48 am NZST #2559drajkParticipantI’ve stayed at Rydges Wellington several times and enjoyed the late checkout and a free drink. I’ve found however that due to room being charged back to a corporate I’ve never been credited with a stay or points even though reservations appeared on PGR pre stay and I was given other benefits.
May 30, 2017 at 3:02 pm NZST #2523drajkParticipantThe latest newsletter had a comment about domestic checkin changes with a link to the following:
“Important changes for check in and departures
Barcodes on printed e-ticket receipts are no longer accepted at the gate scanners, as boarding passes when travelling on domestic flights.
Epass tags are also no longer recognised at the gate or lounge entry scanners. These were issued to frequent flyer Airpoints Elite, Gold, Silver and Koru members several years ago.
This change means that you’ll no longer receive a paper chit with your seat number, from the gate scanner when boarding your flight.
Passengers will need to either check in online or via their Air NZ mobile app, to attain a boarding pass on their mobile device, which they can use to scan at the gate or at lounge entry scanners.
Alternatively, passengers can still attain a printed boarding pass at our airport kiosks to scan at the gate as you board, or at our lounge entry scanners.”
It does say that you need to check in via the app to get a boarding pass yet in my experience a boarding pass is shown without clicking check in – perhaps this won’t be the case from Friday.
May 29, 2017 at 10:20 pm NZST #2494drajkParticipantFor 30-50 points it’s IMHO well worth a status run as you’re looking at a maximum of $300 to earn 50 SP.
Is that only from Wellington with the reverse direction loophole?
Can you give some examples of that earn if possible from AKL – they may well be very useful.
I don’t think I’ve ever earned SP that easily.
I have had ~$500 return AKL-CHC only earn me about 22SP. My approx $650 flexiplus return AKL-CHC this weekend will earn me 37SP.
May 24, 2017 at 11:49 pm NZST #2411drajkParticipantI performed two Duty Free purchases at Loop DF at AKL last week – still no points added to account.
