Air New Zealand passengers are able to earn Status Points and Airpoints Dollars through the airline's loyalty program, Airpoints.

On each flight you'll earn a combination of Airpoints Dollars and Status Points. APD$1 = NZD$1 for the purposes of the program, which enables you buy a reward ticket on any seat on any Air New Zealand service. Partner airlines and Star Alliance member flights also earn Airpoints Dollars and Status points on qualifying booking classes.

Status Points enable you to move up through the tiers of the Airpoints program. Earn 450 Status Points in a year and you'll have Silver status, earn 900 Status Points in a year and you'll have Gold status, and earn 1500 Status Points in a year and you'll have Elite status. Requalification only requires 90% of the points required to initially qualify.  Gold and Elite status also gives Star Alliance Gold status, the biggest benefit of which is lounge access before any flight operated by a Star Alliance airline.

Airpoints Dollars can also be earned from a growing number of non airline offerings including petrol, insurance, electricity and groceries.

You can join Air New Zealand Airports via the Airpoints website. There is currently no fee to join the Airpoints program.
