It depends what you use APD for – there are a myriad of opportunies for using APD, and a significant number of people now spend most of their APD on 3rd party rewards rather than flights.

I see pretty much zero risk of anything happening to APD now. In many ways the worst uncertainty part of Covid is now past.

It would seem some people are getting refunds for this route, and others aren’t.

Air NZ advised in their industry briefing on Wednesday that they’re still awaiting clarification on their requirement to refund on this route.

What response do you want? Air NZ have been giving US refunds for weeks. Have you asked them?

Air NZ are under no obligation to offer refunds on flights to Beunos Aires, and there is no legal requirement (such at there is for US or European flights).

In this situation it’s pretty much a case of accepting a credit since you opted not to book a refundable fare.

You may be entitled to a refund. When were your flights and had they been cancelled or did you cancel?

If they cancelled call Air NZ back and tell them they are in breach of DOT regulations if they do not provide you with a refund.

If you cancelled for a forward booking that is still scheduled you may not have a lot of negotiating power as this is not necessarily in breach of any DOT rules.

If you have a flight to the US Air NZ need to refund you . They’re trying to avoid doing this at present but they are not exempt from DOT requirements for flights to/from the US.

Lodge a complaint with the DOT if you feel you’re getting nowhere with Air NZ. I know one other person who already has.

Where were you flying to? Wasn’t the US by any chance?

If so Air NZ have to give you a refund, even though they might be saying they don’t.

The limitations of AT HOP date back to NZTA’s decision to award the contract to Thales with much being written about that since.

AT HOP will never get the ability to use a mobile phone or credit card as it lacks any tokenisation capability and there is no point upgrading it when it’s all going to be scapped and replaced in around 4 years or so anyway with the new NZTA backed integrated ticketing system that Wellington will get first.

Credit card interchange rates are still a big issue here that will potentially still limit the ability to use credit cards, and the Government is showing zero interest in doing anything about the issue, unlike Australia and the UK which have already forced rates to be slashed.

Occasionally it doesn’t show until closer to the time. It is also possible an aircraft swap may have possibly been planned.

Except Air NZ has not been aware of these issues since 2017.

This is a different from the one that occurred on the original 787 aircraft. This new issue only affects the 78N aircraft (787 code2).

The true impact was only known about on the 7th Nov when RR announced that a new resesigned HPT that was expected from early 2020 will not be available until 2021.

It does seem to be a semi popular option via WLG these days to get to LAX. I’ve heard of a few friends of friends who have done it, and I’m surprised they don’t make a bigger push in terms of marketing this.

I just don’t think Samsonite make the same high quality luggage they used to make.

Well Southwest is no allocated seats – you board in order which is determined by your check-in position. If you’re wanting a specific seat you’ll either want to pay extra or ensure you’re checked in no more than 1 min after check-in opens 24 hrs out to get a good location in the queue.
