Can’t believe I’m the first to raise this (if not, please share link!
I note a post in 2012, and another in 2014 on the subject, one claiming to be a world first…)
Having travelled all over London and much of the UK with only my iPhone, I’m somewhat amazed at how behind we are here.
The limitations of AT HOP date back to NZTA’s decision to award the contract to Thales with much being written about that since.
AT HOP will never get the ability to use a mobile phone or credit card as it lacks any tokenisation capability and there is no point upgrading it when it’s all going to be scapped and replaced in around 4 years or so anyway with the new NZTA backed integrated ticketing system that Wellington will get first.
Credit card interchange rates are still a big issue here that will potentially still limit the ability to use credit cards, and the Government is showing zero interest in doing anything about the issue, unlike Australia and the UK which have already forced rates to be slashed.
