Under terms of use 3&4?
November 14, 2017 at 11:16 pm NZDT #3684KiwiwingsParticipantI don’t know how to upload images here. I click on the “pic” icon but am prompted for the “source” and description. I’m used to just having my photos icon come up and being able to select and post.
November 15, 2017 at 9:30 pm NZDT #3690Paul SpainKeymasterWhat are the products and services you are planning on charging fees for?
We don’t have any immediate paid products and services to offer. Our monetisation to start with is from advertising and affiliate revenues. Please support our advertisers if you’d like to support the Travel Talk NZ community – or share about the community on social media or in person 🙂

Like many online forums, we don’t host images on our site directly (at this stage). You’d need to upload the photo online somewhere and then link to the image.
Agree it’s not ideal or great user experience – our forum software doesn’t currently do what you suggested, but I’ll have a look and see if there are any options to address this.

Many travel sites and forums quickly (and unsurprisingly and possibly justifiably) become flooded with posts and information for points collectors, business class flyers and the likes, and rapidly become irrelevant for those of us who travel less frequently and will never qualify for free hotel nights or class upgrades, but still want to get the best bang for our buck at those times when we do go on a trip.

Yeah it sort of comes back to that saying a picture paints a thousand words. Especially when it comes to accommodation.

Hello! I think what you’re describing is actually the majority of travellers. I personally like to think we play both ends of the spectrum and the in-between bits. If you travel with a pet you’re generally going to end up in the more basic end of accomodation (but not always!). Some times it’s budget or just that sense of value for money.
You can always start your own thread here to discuss whatever topic you wish. When it comes to flying I have to admit I’m keen to get to know the back of the plane as much as the front! I find economy has less differences between airlines vs the more premium cabins. But still – not all airlines are created equal and there are definitely tips to share depending on the airline and the aircraft. Flying separate tickets can be great, but you’ll need to do your homework on cancellation policies or change of flight times. Accommodation wise I find mid range really tough to choose from. Tripadvisor can be a nightmare leaving you confused. And reviews saying ‘yeah great’ – aren’t useful at all. They tell me zip!
But I wouldn’t completely ignore some of the paid memberships & buying points. At certain destinations you’d be a fool to ignore these.
Look forward to hearing about your previous experiences and future destinations 🙂 For every tip you share, I’ll try and share one back!

Good thought! We recently launched deals forum – and will certainly look for further opportunities to cater to a broad range of travellers in addition to the frequent flyers.

This is a good point. I’ve created a new forum to trial. Kick us off with a topic?

OK – have added a feature to allow this (as a test for now). When you click the pic icon you can specify a source, or click the little folder icon to upload an image. Feel free to give it a try and let me know how it goes.

You can travel all over the world but I still think home is pretty amazing – Mt Cook with what looks to be a few avalanches in the making.

February 11, 2018 at 12:27 am NZDT #4101Adam JobbinsKeymasterWe moved the site to a new server a couple of weeks ago, so it could be a setting. Do you know the file size of an image you’re having issues with?
February 11, 2018 at 10:25 pm NZDT #4102Adam JobbinsKeymasterShould be fixed now. Was missing an image processing library on the new server.
February 13, 2018 at 3:14 pm NZDT #4112KiwiwingsParticipantCheers! I don’t even have to convert now!
