[MOD] Ok with this. We don’t have an official policy on referral links like this at the moment, so I can’t promise we’ll allow this forever. but OK now.
I don’t have one for you sorry, but hopefully someone will.

I’m (just short of) 3/4 of the way to renewing Gold on VA this year, without flying a single VA flight. With the NZ alliance it was nice to be able to flying NZ but book to VA, which is much easier to obtain/retain gold than NZ, and my work flights are usually VA – but I haven’t flown anywhere since the start of the year.
Probably won’t retain…[Read more]
Very few people do, because unless you know to hit that specific m. URL, you never see it. I only know about it because the digital agency that did that mobile site also did some design work for the company I work for and they used it as an example.
Actually, you can’t find it because they’ve killed it off! Sad face
I think Pocket Weather is only on Android. Same company (Based in AU) who make the very popular Pocket Casts podcasts app (That IS available on iPhone). The radars and warnings the BOM publish are useful, which is why I use it over AccuWeather all the time, but the BOM do have a very nice mobile website at m.bom.gov.au that for some reason doesn’t…[Read more]
When at Home I use PocketWeather which is great, but it’s Australian only as it’s tied to the data the Bureau of Meteorology here publish, when when I am travelling I generally use AccuWeather. It has daily + hourly forecasts including temp and wind, holds multiple cities plus your current location. Had sun up/down but that is a little buried. I…[Read more]
I’m in Auckland late next month for a wedding, and the reception is being held at the Rydges in Auckland. I figured I might as well stay there as well. I’ve booked two nights (which I can cancel if needed), but wondering if anyone on here has stayed there before and if it’s an OK hotel, or if I would be better staying somewhere better nearby.…[Read more]
Haven’t done it personally, but know a couple of others who have personally and hotel has obliged when there is a cheaper rate through booking sites like Expedia.
The incentive in that case is the hotel gets paid at the time of stay, rather than days or weeks in arrears from the booking site, and without commission.
In your case, I guess you’re…[Read more]
I’ve never really seen the point when there are automated check in kiosks available, as these generally only take a minute or two, even if there is a bit of a queue. I basically never check a bag, so that’s never a consideration for me, but if you do, you’re essentially checking in at the airport anyway.
One advantage I have found, especially…[Read more]
We have some airport info for the main NZ airports right now, and have planned to expand that to regional NZ and key international airports (just need to find some time). Under the “Travel Information” link in the header you’ll find AKL, WLG and CHC.
The pages have some of the info you have suggested, and hopefully we can expand that in future too.
Probably right here on TravelTalk, with Steve’s beginners guide to rental car insurance 🙂
Most of my rental bookings these days are with Hertz using my works CDP code. Always seems to come out cheaper than the deal sites or any of the specials that they have directly. It also drops the excess to something like $1800, which if I am out of…[Read more]
I had a quick look and it seems the two duty free retailers at Auckland (Aelia and The Loop) who have a presence don’t sell much Apple (or electronics generally), but you could order something for pickup from JR Duty Free who looks like they do pick up only (No actual store presence there).

They do look very nice!
Here in Oz, CBA have a thing with their credit card travel insurance where you can activate extra cover (free, but some paid addons) via internet banking, which also notifies them of your travel plans. It’s all quite nicely integrated. I also like how I can turn off and on international in store and/or international online credit card payments…[Read more]
Will see what we can do. There have been some new offerings in the last year or so that look interesting, with value propositions getting a lot better. In the past, most of the global(ish) travel SIMs or data devices have been really poor value, but they are a lot closer to just getting a local SIM now, but with less hassle.
For me, $5 a day…[Read more]
