I’ve certainly found my Qantas and NZ flights quite full since the changeover. It’s been a busy period for me so I’ve been tired (= grumpy) and less tolerant of jam packed flights. I guess it’s good for the respective companies business.
I decided to fly more VA and finding the experience better. Economy X with a middle seat free (not many…[Read more]

I was looking at some of the flights through to Perth and all I can say is – be careful!
You could be connecting to a Qantas 737 in economy if you’ve paid for economy or PE on NZ. Personally I think the pricing is steep considering you fly PE for half the leg then end up on economy for the 2nd leg (no thanks!!).
Also not great flying Qantas…[Read more]
Found this through one of the bloggers godsavethepoint?
Basically purchase a standard ticket on Heathrow Express trains and once onboard choose a business class seat and flash your star alliance gold card. It’s free so why not?
One thing I think Auckland Airport could do better is create better dining areas rather than the ‘food court’ style. Seems to be the look they’re going for. Opportunity missed.
So far if I had to spend time outside the lounge it would be land side at the Novotel or Macs bar place (can’t remember the actual name) on the departures level.
Kiwiwings started the topic Forego housekeeping to save $ on F&B or earn extra points in the forum Hotels & Accomodation 5 days ago
I’ve noticed a few hotels offering extra points or $ off F&B if you forego house keeping if you’re staying longer than 1 night. I can’t say I look at all of the cardboard in a room and I’m sure it’s only at certain participating properties but worthwhile keeping an eye out for if you’re planning on eating at the property.
I actually ha…[Read more]
Might help a bit.
The Auckland regional lounge will be awesome having tarmac views, probably of the props.
I’ll miss the Welly furniture.
Keen to see what’s offered at Tauranga.
On occasion we stay in the city in Auckland so we don’t have to worry about who’s drinking how much and who’s driving.
Look forward to some sort of feedback (doesn’t have to be a report) as you’ll both beat me to it 🙂
There are a tonne of hotels in major cities and although there are lots that are really quite nice, I find there are few…[Read more]
Without staying there, this looks like my favourite new hotel in Welly!
Google maps says bus 91 from the airport goes straight there. I’ve never actually taken the bus in Welly but there is a first time for…[Read more]
Wondering if anyone has tried these?
They look like they’re for people that are awake, or sleep on their back. I like sleeping on my side and these things look long where they would jab me if I rolled onto my side when asleep on a plane.
So there’s a cool Whisky bar in the duty free area to the right after security (can’t recall the duty free store name) but it’s easy to miss if you’re just wondering through the maze as it’s closer to the back wall.
Anyway, a little birdie told me they are having their own Whisky Festival. The birdie didn’t know the dates but possibl…[Read more]
At Auckland international I did notice some people being redirected to the Strata lounge trying to use their credit card lounge passes? Lounge wasn’t full but they were anticipating it was going to get busy. Interesting to see they’re being proactive in managing crowding. Have to admit I felt a bit sorry for them as I think typically people are…[Read more]
I never read the T&C so finding things out as I go but apparently you can’t earn points for purchasing tech stuff or tobacco.
Otherwise I think I’ve redeemed $5 on parking so far.
What has been useful is drawing my attention to parking at the airport instead of at Air NZ – sometimes. Kind of have to weigh it up each trip. Haven’t been able to…[Read more]
VA’s pricing is apparently $20 TPAC and $9/hr
I’d be interested to see if they offer anything different across the Tasman or if they stick to $9/hr. Might be easier if everything is…[Read more]
See the article. I’ve not searched myself.
Then you can catch a cheap short haul flight to wherever you actually need to be.

I’m just going to put another feather in the cap of the Rydges program.
London is a bit of an expensive city, accommodation not excluded and with some programs moving to dynamic pricing even for award nights I’m happy that with Rydges you can book the Kensington property for a flat 150 points. Just the standard rooms available. Happens to be…[Read more]

I swear I have eaten the same meal on this flight EVERY time (~ 4 months)! Doesn’t matter if it’s economy or PE. There’s zero options given.
Rice with bit of egg, peas, couple of prawns, some chicken
Kit kat is nice
Fruit is good, different in PE from economy
Ice-cream in PE.
However, the plane is awesome.
Wifi is ok, sometimes a bit…[Read more]
