General Information
Wellington Airport is located approximately 8km from the Wellington CBD. It is the only international airport to service the Wellington region. Due to its short runway (2081m/6827ft) the airport generally only services domestic services and international flights to Australia and the Pacific Islands.
Wellington Airport has a single terminal building for both domestic and international services. The main airlines that operate from Wellington are Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Qantas, Fiji Airways and Singapore Airlines (who operate a single service between Wellington and Singapore via Canberra).

A range of short term parking options are available directly at the terminal. The car park is open 24/7/365.
Valet, Premium, Covered and Uncovered options are available, and parking can be pre-booked online at a discount. Parking booked online allows for faster entry and exit as travellers can simply use the credit card they booked with to enter and exit the car park - just head to the airport and follow the signs.
The Long Term Car Park is located at the Southern end of Wellington Airport on Freight Drive. If entering the Airport from the City end, enter through one of the two left hand entry lanes by pulling a ticket at the entry gates. Drive past the Golf Club, following the directional signage to the Long Term Car Park. A complimentary shuttle operates 24 hours 7 days a week from the Long Term Car Park to the Main Terminal and back.

Park N Depart parking operate offsite on the Lyall Bay side of the airport. They operate a shuttle continuously between the carpark and terminal. www.parkndepartairportparking.co.nz
The 91 Airport Flyer bus departs Wellington airport approximately every 20 minutes throughout the day. This service travels to and from Queensgate Mall in Lower Hutt via the Wellington CBD and Petone. The first bus leaves Queensgate Mall in Lower Hutt for the Airport at 5:30am, and the last service from Wellington airport for Queensgate Mall leaves at 9:25pm. The cost to travel from the airport into the Wellington CBD is $9. The timetable for this route can be found on the Metlink website
An alternate cheaper bus option (which will take significantly longer due to the number of stops) is the # 11 bus which travels from Seatoun to Wellington Railway Station and return via the Wellington CBD. This service leaves from the cnr of Broadway and Hobart Streets which is approximately 8-10 mins walk from the airport. The cost to travel from the airport into the Wellington CBD is $5. If you're on an early morning international departure or late night international arrival there are no bus services operating at these times to get you to or from the airport.
There are no train services to or from Wellington airport.
Wellington airport is well served by rental car companies.
Avis, Budget, Thrifty, Hertz and Europcar are all located in the ground floor by baggage claim and all have cars onsite.
A number of other rental companies including Go Rentals, Apex, Rent-a-dent, Ace Rentals and Omega Rentals all operate off-site and offer shuttle pickups from the airport.
A number of taxi companies operate from Wellington airport and drivers must be registered with the airport to pick up passengers. Taxis are located just outside the main doors on the ground arrivals floor.
The cost of a taxi from the airport into the Wellington CBD is approximately $25 - $35 depending on the taxi company and traffic. Prices do differ between companies and pricing is legally required to be published on the exterior of the taxi.
Drivers from some smaller taxi companies can often be seen waiting at the Burger King / Z Petrol Station as only companies registered with the airport are allowed to pick up passengers at the airport taxi stand. While you can save the airport surcharge by hailing a taxi here, just be aware that the flag fall and per km price charged by some of these taxis can be higher than the larger companies located at the airport.
Super Shuttle is the only shuttle company operating from Wellington airport. The cost of a shuttle into the Wellington CBD is $20 per person and around $50 if you're heading to the Hutt Valley. Shuttles are located just outside the main doors on the ground arrivals floor. Bookings are recommended for late night international arrivals.

From the 1st September 2017 Uber has become an official transport operator at Wellington airport. A $3 fee applies for both drop-off and pick-up. A dedicated pick-up area operates on the ground arrivals level. The cost of an Uber into the Wellington CBD is approximately $18 - $25 depending on traffic conditions, and around $50 to Lower Hutt.
Airport Lounges
Wellington airport has two domestic Koru lounges operated by Air New Zealand. The larger main lounge is located after security screening inside the southern pier, while the smaller regional lounge is located before security screening in the main terminal area (security screening is only required on jet services in New Zealand). If you're after showers these are only located in the main lounge.
One small caveat is that while the vast majority of Air New Zealand jet services leave from the southern pier (gates 13-17) a number of services leave from the northern pier using gates 23-29. If you are departing from one of these gates and use the main Koru lounge you will need to allow extra time to exit from this pier, walk across the terminal (approx 3-4 mins) and be rescreened before you can board your flight.
In the international area there is both a Air New Zealand Koru lounge as well as a Qantas Club. All Air New Zealand lounges at Wellington Airport are Star Alliance Gold lounges.
Accommodation
There are currently no hotels in the the Wellington Airport precinct, however a number of motels are located close to the airport, and Wellington City is only 6km from the Airport with plenty of hotel options available. A Rydges Hotel is planned across from the terminal, however construction has not yet commenced and a planned completion date is not known.
