Air New Zealand has announced changes to the Airpoints program effective from the 1st August 2019

A new "Status Boost" will apply every 10 journeys within your current tier anniversary period. For every 10 journeys a bonus 30 Status Points will be earned by Airpoints Elite members, and 15 Status Points will be earned by Airpoints Gold members. The T&C at this point do not make clear the actual definition of a "journey" which may create some confusion for customers.

In an attempt to combat overcrowding of lounges, a change is being made to the number of guests that can be taken into Koru lounges by Airpoints Elite members.

Airpoints Elite members will only be permitted to take three guests traveling on the same service as the Elite member into Domestic and International Koru lounges, down from the current five. Up to three children aged between 3 - 17 are permitted when traveling on the same service.

Changes are also being made to Koru lounge vouchers that are earned on credit cards. All Airpoints credit cards are moving from 2 x vouchers per $20,000 spent up to 2 x vouchers per $30,000 spent. A maximum of 4 x vouchers can now be earned per year on credit cards.

The changes are the first to the Airpoints program since new head of loyalty Jeremy O’Brien took over earlier this year.
